10 Clothing Tricks Most Guys Don’t Know (Do YOU?) 2019 Men’s Style Hacks

10 Clothing Tricks Most Guys Don’t Know (2019
Edition) [0:00:00]
In today’s video, gents, ten clothing tricks that most guys don’t know. [Music]
First up, choose the right type of pockets for your pants. So, if you ever had a pair of chinos or dress
pants that have flaring pocket issue. You know what I’m talking about; looks like
you’ve got ears down there. These flaring pockets just making your hips
look wider. Now, if this is happening to you, it’s most
likely because the pants don’t fit you, you’re wearing them maybe too close to the
hips, or it could be the style of the pockets. So, we commonly see three types of pocket
styles on trousers. First up, we see the vertical pocket style
often seen on dress pants. Now, this one is the most common offender
when it comes to flare. Why? Because if the trousers don’t fit you correctly,
this right here is going to fold out, it just looks bad. How to fix the flare with this pocket style? Two options: Take the trousers to a tailor,
get them adjusted to fit you better. That may fix the problem. Another option, this one is a bit more extreme,
actually, sew shut the pockets, you’re not going to have the flare issue, but you’re
also not going to have use of the pockets. Now, the next two styles of front pockets
are the ones that you want to look for. You want to look for a slanted pocket. You’re going to see this on some dress slacks. This is what you want to go for, much less
likely to flare out. And, this other type, the Western pocket,
also known as the horizontal pocket. We see it commonly on jeans and chinos. This one will not flare out at all and is
my preferred pocket. Tip two, how to avoid the shoulder nipple. You know what I’m talking about here. You thought you were doing the right thing
hanging up all your polo shirts in your closet and all of a sudden you put one on and you’ve
just got this bump right here on your shoulder point. The key to avoiding shoulder nipples in all
of your shirts is to remember hang your woven shirts and your knitted should be folded. So, what’s the difference? Okay. Woven, this is in general is going to be dress
shirts. These are going to be fabrics that they don’t
have much [give?]. Knits on the other hand, this is going to
be your t-shirts. In general, you want to fold these. Now, some of you guys are saying, Antonio,
I want to hand my shirts, I love the way it looks. Okay. You’re going to need to choose hangers then
that have a wider shoulder. This right here is going to help prevent the
nipples from forming on your shirts. In addition, don’t leave the shirts up for
more than a couple of weeks because after that, it can start to shape the fabric. The next clothing trick, use color like a
spice. I like to equate color with salt. You add a bit of it to pull out the flavor
of the dish, not to overpower it. Now, let’s use my outfit as an example. Blue, the dominant palette here, a little
bit of white here, but let’s change it up a bit and, boom, just like that added a bit
of color. You can probably say, Antonio, add a bit more,
let’s see what that looks like. Boom! What do you think? Looks a lot better than those other pocket
squares, right? Adds a little bit of color, brings out the
flavor of the outfit. And that takes me to my next clothing trick,
accessories. Gents, the right accessory can level up your
outfit. A jacket without a pocket square, it feels
like it’s missing something. A really nice shirt without cufflinks if you
love it, bring them into your style. When it comes to watches, guys, find a watch
that works for you, works for your particular style, bring it into your outfit. So, the watch I wore with today’s outfit
is made by Vincero, the sponsor of today’s video. It’s the Bellwether Silver and White. Guys, go check this out on their website,

fraction of the cost of a luxury watch. Gentlemen, I’m linking to Vincero down in
the description of this video with the best discount code you’re going to find out there,
guys. Use it or lose it. It’s a great deal. It’s not going to be around forever. The next tip is to balance out your proportions
choosing the right fit of your clothing and the right colors. So, if you’ve got short legs which a lot
of shorter guys do, you’re going to want to lengthen your leg line. How to do that? Make sure that you always choose a belt that
matches your trousers. Why? It’s just going to make your legs look longer,
therefore make you look taller. Another tip for shorter guys or guys with
smaller proportions, never wear an oversized jacket especially a sports jacket, suit jacket. Now, the normal rule of thumb for the length
of the jacket is that it should cover the bottom curvature of your buttocks. But, if you’re a shorter guy, guess what? It can be an inch higher and that’s going
to be fine. In fact, that’s going to look better for
your proportions. The next clothing trick that most guys don’t
know is to only dryclean your clothing when it’s dirty. I know this one seems obvious, but here’s
the thing, a lot of guys don’t their suits very often, they wear it once and then they
send it off to the cleaners. [0:05:05]
The problem with that is drycleaning is very rough on your clothing. Think of it like video games, you’ve only
got so many lives with your clothing before it’s gone. So, with the suit, sports jacket, blazer,
even your nice sweaters, you only need to dryclean them when they’re dirty which is
for me about every fifteen to twenty wears or once a season. Another quick tip, gentlemen, always dryclean
wool clothing before you store it. If you do that and put them immediately into
an airtight container, you’re not going to have to worry about moth damage. This next one applies to you travelers. So, as you’re packing your bag and choosing
what you’re going to wear on the airplane, always take your heaviest pair of shoes and
wear those. That’s going to make your luggage a bit
lighter. You pack your lightest shoes at the bottom. Make sure you use a shoe bag as well, so you
don’t get any dirt or grime on any parts of your clothing. Next up, understand the difference between
straight lacing and cross lacing. Straight lacing is always going to be more
formal and is what you want on your dress shoes. Cross lacing, this is going to do a better
job with adding stability, it’s going to hold better, but it is less formal and should
be for casual wear. Next up, if you’ve got sloped shoulders,
you’ve got a relatively slim upper body, let’s build it up. Learn to layer and put on clothing that’s
going to draw attention to certain areas. Right here, this pattern right here, this
contrasting fabric is going to draw attention to the shoulders and build up that line. Look for maybe epaulettes patch pocket right
in here. But, if you’ve got the opposite problem,
you got really a big upper body, you may want to downplay it. Look for something like raglan sleeves which
are going to give you a more sloped shoulders. This next clothing trick is meant to help
you out if you’re out shopping you think you found an amazing deal, but you can’t
tell, is this shirt high quality or is this shirt low quality. The key with identifying quality whether it’s
a shirt whether it’s a jacket is look at the materials that were actually use and the
way that they put them together. You want to make sure and look at those small
details because if they paid attention to the small details, then you can rest assured
that the fabric is going to be of good quality, that the thread that they use to actually
sew it together isn’t going to fall apart on your after five to six washes. So, one of the first things I look at when
it comes to a shirt is the buttons. I want to not only look at the type of buttons
that were used and plastic is fine, it’s going to be the most common, but mother of
pearl would be great. But then, I go look at the stitching. The stitching is key because if they didn’t
take the time to have a nice tight stitch, if it looks like it’s already coming out
and the shirt is you never even washed it or even bought it yet, then be very careful
about the stitching. Then, look on the inside of the shirt. Are there loose threads all over the place? If there are loose threads, be very careful
because they didn’t pay attention to the small details. You want to look at the collar. If you have removable shirt stays, not all
shirts are going to have this, but it’s really a nice detail if they’ve got removable
shirt stays. These small details to me signal this is a
good quality shirt. Now, gents, if you enjoyed today’s video,
you’re going to love this one, Seven Hacks to Looking Amazing without Any Work. So, everything I cover on this video right
here, I did not cover in today’s video. So, if you want to learn about fit signature
style, I’ve got you covered. The details on this video, these are made
